The rollers can rotate freely, and the axis of the rollers is usually 45° with the axis of the wheel. Each Mecanum wheel has three degrees of freedom of motion. The first is that the wheel rotates around its own axis driven by the motor, the second is that the roller rotates around its own axis driven by friction, and the third is that the wheel rotates around the contact point between the wheel and the ground. When the motor drives the wheel to rotate, the wheel moves in a normal way in a direction perpendicular to the drive shaft, and the rollers on the periphery of the wheel rotate freely along their respective axes. The Mecanum wheel has a compact structure and flexible movement. The combination of three or more Mecanum wheels can synthesize torque in any direction through the coordination of the speed and steering between each wheel, thereby driving the platform to move in any direction and realizing omnidirectional movement in the plane.
